Youth Focal Point

The National Youth Council (NYC) was set up by the Singapore Government on 1 November 1989 as the national co-ordinating body for youth affairs. Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister of State for National Development and Trade and Industry, is the current Chairman of the Council. The Council comprises members who are representatives from various government ministries, statutory boards, youth organisations, academic institutions, voluntary welfare organisations, media and private sector organisations.

As the national co-ordinating agency for youth affairs, the NYC supports the development of youth & youth organisations through grants, awards, national and international programmes, research and publications, as well as other support services. The NYC is also the administering body for the Singapore Youth Awards (SYA), Outstanding Youth in Education Award (OYEA), and liaison body with ASEAN and International Organisations on youth development.

The NYC aims to develop a vibrant, highly-connected and self-sustaining youth sector so as to nurture World-Ready Youth - youth with the values, outlook and skills to succeed and thrive in a global environment and yet maintain strong ties to their families, community and nation.
