The Association of Southeast Asian Nations, commonly referred to as ASEAN, is a geo-political and economic organization of 10 Southeast Asian countries. Formed on 8 August 1967 by Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand, it now includes Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia too. ASEAN aims to promote regional economic growth, peace, social progress, and cultural development among its members.
It also aims to promote regional peace and stability, as well as active collaboration and mutual assistance on matters of common interest in the economic, social, cultural, technical, scientific and administrative fields.
